I did an abortion 2 years ago and since then I m having severe abdominal pains and backaches. Does this mean I’ m infertile? What can I do?
Abortion Side Effects
Backache can occur due to a host of conditions. However, it doesn’t imply that you are infertile. Have you been trying for a child? Have you got yourself examined for the same? Are your menstrual cycles regular? Have you observed any changes in your physical structure including abnormal weight gain, etc?
Here are some things that you can do to evaluate and improve your condition:
- Get an ultrasonography done. This will help you get an understanding of the problems in your abdomen and pelvis. Also get your self examined by a gynecologist. It is possible that a pelvic inflammatory disease can cause a problem
- Improve your diet. Increase the intake of calcium rich products like milk, yoghurt, cashew nuts, figs, etc. Include fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid oily foods, meat, etc
- The only way an abortion can cause infertility is if it results in adhesions in the uterus. Occasionally excessive scrapping of the uterus can cause adhesions in the uterus, which can reduce your chances of conception. This can be detected via an ultrasound or a laproscopic assessment.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease can also affect fertility. This may cause obstruction of the fallopian tubes and hamper the passage of the ovum from the ovaries to the uterus. This can be evaluated only via diagnostic laproscopy.
