Sebaceous Cyst Behind Ear Lobe

Sebaceous cysts are commonly found cysts which occur due to accumulated dead cells or a collection of oil inside the skin. These are non-cancerous, and are not harmful unless they get infected.

They grow slowly and reduce in size on their own. When infected, a thick, white discharge is observed. This is responsible for extreme pain.

Treatment For Cyst Behind Ear

When cysts are small and not very infected, you can treat the cyst non-surgically, at home.

  • Apply a heating pad directly over the cyst. Another alternative is melt wax and drop a little bit on the cyst. It affords instant relief and melts the cyst as well.
  • Mix turmeric powder and water and apply on the cyst for about 10 to 15 minutes; then wash off. Repeat 2 to 3 times a day, for a few days till the cyst vanishes.
  • Tea tree essential oil is ideal. It is an excellent anti-septic. Apply a drop 4 to 5 times a day, till the cyst disappears.

Cyst Behind Ear

Usually a cyst does not need any treatment or surgical intervention; they diminish on their own. However, when the condition gets complicated, your doctor may recommend surgery. The surgeon will numb the area and then make an incision. He will drain the pus / discharge and clean the area properly. Next, he will wash it off with an iodine-based solution. The hole is filled with an anti-septic ribbon. The dressing should be changed regularly.

I went through major stress recently. I had 3 sebaceous cysts treated by physician with antibiotics. Another went away without any treatment. However, there is one beginning next to my belly button. The worst is on the back of my upper right leg (where you sit on a chair). What should I do?

Sebaceous cyst can occur anywhere on the body, especially where there is excess of sebum (oil) production on the skin surface. The cyst consists of solidified sebum. Natural way to treat the cyst at home is to apply hot water fomentation. The sebum inside the cyst melts down. When pressure is put on liquefied sebum the fluid may be absorbed in the blood. However, be sure the cyst is not infected. Repeating it several times may be beneficial to reduce the size of cyst and the discomfort. Homeopathic medicine is also found effective to treat sebaceous cyst.
