Burning Sensation During Intercourse – Male And Female Causes

Burning Sensation During Intercourse

Burning sensation during intercourse is associated with significant pain during penetration and is referred to as ‘dyspareunia’. Painful intercourse may be experienced by either partner. Here are a few causes of burning sensation during intercourse.

What Causes Burning Sensation During Intercourse in Female

  • The most common cause is vaginal irritation due to lack of lubrication or inadequate sexual arousal.
  • Burning sensation is also associated with dryness of the vaginal tissue or involuntary muscle spasms which may hinder the penetration, resulting in pain and burning
  • Vaginal infections, tumors or fibroids, endometriosis, diabetes and multiple sclerosis have been associated with dyspareunia in females

What Causes Burning Sensation During Intercourse in Male

  • Painful intercourse in males is largely attributed to lack of lubrication.
Using KY Jelly or any other form of lubrication during sexual intercourse has been known to provide significant relief.
  • Females using intra uterine contraceptive devices may be a cause for painful intercourse among the male partner. This is due to the irritation caused by the device. Talk to the gynecologist and get it removed
  • Infections of the reproductive tract are also associated with burning and painful intercourse.
