Nasal Polyps And Asthma Syndrome: Natural Cure For Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps are soft benign growths that develop in the mucus membrane of nose or sinuses. Nasal polyps are large or small in size, the larger ones can block the nasal passage, this can impact a person’s breathing.

As the polyps grow near the opening of sinuses in nasal canal, they block the normal flow of mucus from the sinuses resulting into blocked nose. A blocked nose makes it difficult to breathe through the nose, and the person starts to breathe through mouth as an alternative.

This is not good for those suffering from asthma especially if the weather is cold.

Late onset asthma is associated with nasal polyps. Childhood asthma is usually not associated with nasal polyps. At least 20 to 30% of patients suffering from nasal polyps will have coexisting asthma. It is often found that people who are suffering from systemic allergic diseases suffer from nasal polyps. Histopathology test of nasal polyps in majority of cases reveal eosinophilia cells. These cells are raised when there is any type of allergy in the body.

Persons sensitive to aspirin or other non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, having asthma are generally known to have nasal polyps.

Therefore a person having nasal polyp and asthma should be careful to take aspirin as this may cause a life threatening situation in some cases. The combination of these three factors, namely Asthma, Nasal Polyp and sensitivity to Aspirin is also known as Samter’s syndrome or Francis triad.

The yellow food coloring agents such as tartrazine and food preserving agents such as sulphites aggravate asthma in some patients. Those who are sensitive to aspirin may also avoid all medicines that contain salicylate as one of its products.
