Chronic Tonsillitis in Adults Treatment
Chronic tonsillitis in adults is a condition characterized by sore throat, due to viral or bacterial infection. Prolonged infection can result in swelling of the tonsils (i.e. lymphatic glands in the pharynx) which can manifest in the form of pain during swallowing, throat irritation and general symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, etc.
Causes of Chronic Tonsillitis in Adults
Throat infection or tonsillitis is primarily caused due to bacterial or viral infection and spreads via droplets (i.e. via the nasal fluids, sneeze or cough of an infected person). In adult’s bacterial infection by pnemococci, hemophilus, staphylococci or streptococci are common causes.
Chronic Tonsillitis in Adults Home Remedies
In case of chronic tonsillitis, antibiotics are recommended to avoid the spread of the infection to the surrounding areas. However, there are some simple home remedies available:
- Salt water gargling would reduce the irritation and inflammation in the throat. Warm water gargles can also help in halting the progression of the infection.
- Turmeric mixed with jaggery is considered to provide substantial relief to the throat.
- Homeopathic drug, Baryta Carbonica, taken in low potency, repeated over six times a day, is considered to be very effective in bacterial tonsillitis.
