Pregnancy Friendly Dessert Recipes: Healthy Diet For Pregnant Women

With a growing fetus inside her womb, the demands of a pregnant woman’s body are much higher as compared to her non pregnant counterpart. Vast number of pregnant women can meet their own needs and that of their babies by eating normal balanced diet. A well balanced and nutritious diet comprising of high fiber rich complex carbohydrate, proteins, fruits and vegetables, less amount of saturated fats will help the mother to stay fit. It also provides essential nutrients for healthy development of the fetus.

Certain nutrients play an important role during the developmental stage of fetus as well as health of the mother.

Iron, folic acid, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, and fiber have an important role during pregnancy. Iron is needed for prevention of anemia; proportionate amount of folic acid reduces the risk of giving birth to a baby with congenital neural tube defect.

Calcium helps the baby’s teeth and bones to form. It is also vital for pregnant women. Fiber prevents constipation and increased craving of unhealthy foods. Aside from breakfast and meals, there are number of healthy desserts that a woman can eat during pregnancy for necessary nutrients.

Healthy Dessert Recipes For Pregnant Women

  • Smoothie prepared from banana and berries.

To prepare for 2 servings, you need to have 1 banana, half cup of strawberry, small amount of wheat germ, small cup of milk low in fat, half cup of strawberries, and 2 teaspoon of honey.

Take a banana and cut it into pieces. Add cut strawberries, wheat germ and milk to it. Now blend the whole content in a food processer until it become smooth. Put the content in two glasses in equal quantity and add one teaspoon of honey in each of them. You can keep it in refrigerator for cooling. It is exceptionally healthy dessert that may provide energy as well as nutrients.

  • Ice cream desserts.

An ice cream dessert is much sought after by one and all. Pregnant women are not an exception. Diet ice creams are available in stores. They are low in fats. Approximately half cup of diet ice cream provides 100 calories. Add it up on the cut slices of fruits that you like. Blueberry, strawberry, pineapple, banana slices all make a good combination of fruits. Add cut slices of these fruits to half cup of low fat ice cream and eat your delicious dessert leisurely.

  • Strawberry frozen yogurt.

It is a delicious dessert with many healthy nutrients meant for a pregnant woman.

You can use fresh strawberry or frozen. The ingredients required are half cup of strawberries, one teaspoon of lemon juice, 1 spoon of sugar, and one cup of non fat yogurt.

Puree strawberries in a blender and add one teaspoon of lemon juice. Mix one teaspoon of sugar in one cup of non fat yogurt till it becomes smooth. Now add the prepared puree and keep in refrigerator to cool. Eat it as a dessert after your dinner.
