- Having swollen ankles are early pregnancy symptoms and can be uncomfortable for you and it can run all throughout the stages of pregnancy.
- Drink plenty of water to fight swollen ankles. Lack of water or dehydration causes the body to store extra water underneath the skin as a defense mechanism. Drinking water would make your ankles swell a little more but it will go down once the water you have taken was able to neutralize to stored fluids on your ankles.
- Elevate your ankles and wrap them with a washcloth soaked in cold water. This will sooth the swelling and inflammation and will generally make you feel better. Soak the towel in cold water every after few minutes to ensure getting enough coldness on your ankle.
- Minimize your consumption of salty foods including table salt because this could lead to swollen ankles after pregnancy. To prevent this, you should also avoid eating processed and canned foods because aside from the fact that they are high in preservatives that could be detrimental to you and your baby’s health, they are also high in salt and salty food causes fluid retention and swelling along the ankles and feet area.
