Post Abortion Side Effects | Pain after Miscarriage | After Abortion

Question: I’m married from 4 months and had miscarriage. Now I can’t walk long and get tired very soon with pain in upper legs. What should I do?

During pregnancy the levels of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) rises to help in the development and growth of the fetus. However following a spontaneous abortion or a D&C procedures, it takes about 4-6 weeks for the HCG levels to come within the normal range of 5. The change in the hormonal levels in the body has been associated with a host of other symptoms like pain, bleeding, emotional disturbance, etc.

At what gestational age did you abort? Was it a spontaneous abortion or induced abortion?
Normally, for any fetus of less than 5 months, Dilation and Curettage is the procedure that is used. Pain normally ceases completely after a Dilatation and Curettage (D & C) procedure.
Since this is the first time that you have undergone a D&C procedure, the cervical dilation may be causing the pain. Is the pain unbearable or disturbing? It is apparent that the cervix is not prone to excessive dilation and the extent of dilatation done would depend upon the gestational age of the fetus.

Do not worry; the pain should subside within a week’s time.

However, following an abortion, physiological symptoms related to grief or guilt will continue to affect you and cause substantial emotional disturbance. These physiological symptoms may manifest in the form of disturbance in sleep or eating patterns, tiredness, unexpected melancholy, disturbing dreams and confusion and also pain.

If the pain continues to be intolerable and restricts you ability to move around you should consult your doctor at the earliest. Get over the grief/ guilt; it will help you conceive better the next time.

I had my periods in the month of October 2009. I had my urine test done when I did not have my next periods in the month of November 2009. The urine report showed positive and then i consulted the Doctor and as per his advice I took medicines and had my periods on 30th, November 2009. It was more of clotted but finally it got over now. Suddenly I noticed that some liquid is coming out from my breast. I am scared; why is it happening? Can you please suggest that why liquid is coming? Because , as far as i know, it comes only when a baby is born. But I did not cross the pregnancy level for more than 3 months.

I would need you to answer a few questions.

Your UPT (urine pregnancy test) showed positive?
What medication did your gynecologist prescribe? What was the name of the medication, the dosage, and the duration?
How long did the period last? Was it only clots? Any other changes noticed?

How long has it been that you’re having the nipple discharge? Is it offensive? What color?

Are you showing any of the following signs?

      – Nausea and vomiting
      – Breast tenderness and enlargement
      – Excessive fatigue
      – Leg cramps
      – Giddiness

If no, you need not worry. You are not pregnant.
To satisfy yourself, get another urine pregnancy test done. This test detects the presence of the HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone, which is a pregnancy hormone. Thus, its absence in the urine negates pregnancy.

I had miscarriage in the month of July in 5th week of LMP. After that I am facing so many problems with my periods. I fainted during my 1st period after miscarriage. Now my 2nd period is going on and first day I felt severe pain. I have not not done any ultrasound after miscarriage. Is there any chance that something is there.
