Skin flaps or skin tags normally occur during the middle age and are associated with rubbing of skin against skin. A similar small growth under the tongue is referred to as a tongue tag and is often indicative of a condition referred to as plica fimbriata. These tags are at an increased risk of being bitten during chewing and can be associated with bleeding. Though it may be benign in nature, a medical evaluation is crucial in assessing the nature of the flap and the possibility of malignancy.

Occasionally an individual may experience occurrence of skin tags on one side of the mouth and are often white, red and painless in nature. Such tags are often indicative of malignant conditions. Over a period of time, the pain and the irritation tend to subside naturally and the skin tag becomes painless. Often tags may develop along with mouth ulcers, as the ulcers spreads.
In skin flaps under the tongue associated with malignant growths, the condition is often not associated with any pain but associated with whitish discoloration of the base of the tongue. Further, oral cancer is associated with inability to open the mouth completely, due to fibrosis and tissue damage in the oral cavity.
How To Remove Skin Flaps In Mouth?
Surgical removal may be required in patients with large skin flaps in the oral cavity. However smaller tags are generally harmless and not associated with any form of complaints. However some skin tags are associated with severe pain and burning and here are a few tips to manage the condition effectively,
- Local application of an anesthetic agent is generally prescribed by doctor. They are considered beneficial in reducing the pain and stop bleeding.
- Local application of raw honey with turmeric powder is also beneficial. Raw honey hastens the healing process while turmeric prevents the occurrence of secondary infection.
- Vitamin B12 is crucial to maintain oral health and avoid mouth ulcers. Include dairy products in your diet along with eggs and lean meat. Alternatively include vitamin B complex supplements in your routine to reduce the possibility of formation of skin flaps.
