Male infertility morphology is the analysis of the sperm; its size, shape, including motility and sperm count. This is done when there is an inability to have children after 1 year of having regular intercourse. Sperm morphology can be evaluated using videomicrography or simple photography of the sample.
In cases of infertility, always seek professional help, because the following abnormalities are microscopic:
- Too large or misshapen sperm head.
- Crooked or double sperm tail.
- Tapered sperm shape.
- Too slow sperm movement.
- Sperm count of 4% concentration or below.
Abnormal Sperm Morphology Causes
- Variocele – This is abnormal enlargement of scrotal veins.
- High fever.
- Exposure to harmful environmental conditions.
- Using harmful, illegal drugs.
- Infection.
- Teratospermia – This is a condition described as having more than 40 % abnormal sperms.
Treatment For Abnormal Sperm Morphology
If a male’s sperm problem is permanent, for instance a testicle abnormality that existed since birth, the condition cannot be treated. Otherwise, if the abnormality was caused by one of the factors listed above, the following are treatments available:
- Homeopathic medicine is a branch of alternative medicine that does not use pharmaceutical solutions. Another name for this is holistic treatment.
- Varicocelectomy is a surgical treatment for variocele. Once it is cured, sperm production is increased.
- Use of analgesic and paracetamol to get rid of high fever.
- Using harmful drugs must be stopped.
- Antibiotics will take care of infection. Just consult your doctor in case of complications.
- Teratospermia is caused by factors such as lead poisoning and recreational drugs.
Morphology changes not necessarily with medication only, but also according to your diet and activities. Morphology of as low as 4% can still fertilize an egg. The condition is not a hopeless case.
