Severe form of blood pressure can lead to a condition called preeclampsia, where there is increased risk for the life of baby as well as the pregnant women. - Diet and lifestyle: Diet plays an important role for an increase in blood pressure in woman. Diet that is high in fat, salt and cholesterol has bad effect on the blood vessels and can become a cause for high blood pressure. Diet rich in fat and cholesterol can over a period of time cause blood clots in the vessel wall, eventually leading to hypertension. Diet high in fat increases the risk of obesity in woman. Obesity will be a factor for hypertension in woman. Too much salt in diet is not good for health. It is one of the causes of high blood pressure at younger age. Salt increases the volume of blood in arteries, especially if there is family history of high blood pressure, than the woman has to be extra careful. She has to avoid foods that can increase the risk of hypertension at younger age. Young women should stay away from smoking and drinking as both can lead to high blood pressure.
- Drugs: Certain medications and illegal drugs can become contributors of high blood pressure in young women. Many women take birth control pills during their reproductive age. Birth control pills contain certain hormones called estrogen and progesterone. These hormones can affect the endocrinology system in the body, resulting in rise of blood pressure. Besides birth control pills also retains fluid in body. All the factors can give rise high blood pressure. Young women often take medicines and pain killers frequently. These medicines taken for long period can affect the kidneys and give rise to high blood pressure.
