Wrist Therapy for Sprained or Broken Hand Wrist
A wrist sprain is a condition when the ligaments of the wrist have been overstrained in such a way that no dislocation occurred. There are many causes of wrist sprain, but the most common are accident from sports like basketball and accidentally falling down. The wrist is one of the most heavily used parts of the body so a sprained wrist therapy is very common. If you have a sprained wrist, follow these steps of caring for it:
Step 1: Rest and Apply Cold Compress
The fist step in sprained wrist therapy is rest, absolute rest for the sprained part.
Step 2: Always Elevate the Affected Wrist
The second step in this sprained wrist therapy is to always elevate the affected wrist so that blood flows to and from it more freely; this will also reduce swelling.
Step 3: Apply Hot Compress
The third step in this sprained wrist therapy is to apply hot compress to the affected area when it is no longer swollen. After applying hot compress, massage the affected wrist and do mild exercise like bending it gently forward and backward.
Step 4: Do Strengthening Exercises
The third sprained wrist therapy step is doing exercises to recover the strength of your affected wrist. You can squeeze a stress ball or lift light materials; the important thing is that the weight or the pressure should not be too much for the rehabilitating wrist.
Step 5: Practice Caution in Doing Activities Using the Wrist
When you go back to doing usual activities, remember that your wrist is still rehabilitating. The best way is to consult a doctor whether you can now go back to normal activities or not yet. This is important because if you injure the wrist again, the next sprained wrist therapy will be harder.
