Where Is Appendix Located: Location Of Appendicitis Pain In Body

Appendix is located in the right lower abdomen, between the belly button and upper portion of  right side of pelvic bone.

Doctors in their medical terminology refer the location of appendix to be in right iliac fossa.

Where Is Appendix Located In Body?

In simple words appendix is located at the ileo cecal junction, where the small intestine and large intestine join together.

There are few instances, where appendix may not be located in its traditional place, but this are very rare.  Such cases arise if a person is having congenital abnormalities, where there is complete transposition of chest and abdominal organs.

In such case location of appendix is in left iliac fossa in tandem with other organs like heart on right side etc. The ratio of its occurrence is 1 in one lac individual, and is more common in males.

A few cases of double appendix have been reported, and one of the twin appendices has been found acutely inflamed and the other uninvolved.

In few others appendix may be completely absent congenitally, the ratio of such occurrence is 1 in 100000 persons.

Location Of Appendicitis Pain

Appendicitis is the condition of inflamed appendix. The pain usually starts around the umbilicus and eventually settles between the umbilicus and the upper portion of right side of pelvic bone.

It is called MacBurney’s point.

The pain is accurately localized and constant.

A valuable clinical observation is that coughing causes pain when a person is suffering from acute appendicitis, which is absent in a person having stone in the uereter.
