Foods that interfere in ferrous sulfate absorption when a person is suffering from iron deficiency anemia should be avoided. These foods are green tea, coffee, phytate in wheat products such as matzoh, pita, oats, nuts, cocoa powder, and vanilla extract. Calcium supplement is also known to interfere with heme iron absorption.
