Constipation has also other symptoms aside from the difficulty in passing. They include the following:

- Passing fewer than normal stools that are hard, dry, and lumpy. It may be long or in small rounds just like pebbles.
- Pain during bowel movement. The causes of pain while passing stool is due to the pressure the stool does to the intestines.
- A feeling of blockage on the rectum
- A sensation that the bowel was not completely evacuated
- Stomach ache or cramps
- Nausea or the feeling of like vomiting
- A feeling of being bloated
- Loss of appetite
- Irritability
- Lack of energy
- General feeling of discomfort
Causes of Pain While Passing Stool
When there is difficulty in moving bowel for three days in adults and four days in children, it is already considered constipation. Its causes include:
- A diet that is low in fiber
- Lack of exercise or physical activity because peristalsis (digestive movement in the bowels) is not stimulated
- Inadequate water intake
- Ignoring the sensation of moving the bowels
- Iron supplementations
- Stress
