  • Weak muscles: weak muscles of urinary tract may be due to age or due to certain disease like prostatitis or after surgery. Weakened control of these muscles will make the urine to dribble involuntarily.
  • Bladder cancer is another cause of bed wetting in adults.
  • Medicines and illness: anti-anxolytic medicine and barbiturates may cause deep sleep, and the patient may not realize the urge at night and thus he may pass urine involuntarily.
  • Mental conditions: anxiety, fear and depression are some of the stressful factors beside Alzheimer’s disease which are responsible for bed wetting in adults.
  • Pregnancy and prostrate enlargement can cause pressure on the bladder and lead to bed wetting at night.

Treatment to stop bed wetting in adults include:

  • Cranberry juice: Cranberry juice before sleeping helps in many adults to eradicate infection in the bladder, the main cause of bed wetting in adults. This way urinary bladder will be able to hold urine for longer periods.
  • Walnuts and raisins when consumed two hours before sleep will help in fighting bed wetting problem.
  • Natural herbs, such as oak bark, wormwood are other remedies for bed wetting in adults.
  • Limit your liquid intake in evening.
  • Use the bathroom before bed.
  • Practice to stop urine midway while passing the urine; this will strengthen the bladder muscles and help to stop bed wetting.
