Slapped cheeks in adults are usually one of the common symptoms of fifth disease or slapped cheek syndrome. Fifth disease is caused by a virus known as parvovirus B19. Although it can affect adults, it is more common among children.

- Take ample rest and sleep to allow your body to recuperate on its own.
- Avoid doing heavy activities while you are still infected or at feeling the symptoms of slapped cheeks in adults.
- Drink lots of fluids or at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day. Drinking fruit juices can also do a lot in relieving the symptoms.
- Boost your immune system by eating healthy or taking large portions of fresh fruits and vegetables everyday especially those that are rich in vitamin C.
- Prefer soft foods and warm liquids such as soups and broths since they are easier to swallow.
- If you are infected with fifth disease it would be better if you temporarily isolate yourself from others to avoid spreading the infection.
- Fifth disease goes away on its own even if you won’t do anything to treat the infection. All you can do is apply symptoms relief and other similar measures. For sore throat, you can suck on a hard candy while joint pains can be treated with ibuprofen and other mild pain killers.
