Question: What Causes Dermatographia?
Dermatographia is a unique skin condition which is characterized by the appearance of raised, red lines even after light scratching. Though it is not a serious disorder, it can be an annoying complaint.
Though there is no apparent cause for the condition, it is assumed that it may be an outcome of an allergic reaction or indication of a highly sensitive skin. Unfortunately, no allergen has been identified till date which causes this condition.
The condition is a self limiting disorder; however some patients may be recommended antihistamine medications which can reduce the response of the immune system to allergic reaction. These drugs are available over the counter and don’t require a doctors prescription.
Here are some simple tips for Dermatographia cure:
- Avoid using synthetic and artificial make up on the face. Always ensure that the skin is well hydrated and moisturized. Always use mild soaps.
- Ensure that you drink a minimum of three liters of water each day to maintain hydration. Dehydrated skin can amplify the problem
- Always wear cotton clothes and avoid nylon or synthetic materials.
- Avoid refined foods. Consuming organic and natural foods will reduce your exposure to allergens and aid in effective management of dermatographia.
