Question: Food for liver in health and disease?
Diet for Liver
Liver is one of the seven channels of elimination. This organ plays an effective role in removing toxins and chemicals from the blood and excreting the waste in the form of bilirubin from the body. A healthy liver plays a critical role in the management of good digestive health and ensuring nutrition and absorption of essential vitamins and nutrients.
Some of the essential tips to ensure good liver health:
- Avoid Alcohol. Alcohol is known to result in biliary cirrhosis which involves complete destruction of the biliary tract
- Increase the intake of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, cereals, oat, whole grain, etc. These products are rich in fiber and work towards aiding in elimination of toxins from the colon. Further these foods supply essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for good liver health.
- Vitamin K is essential for a good liver. Vitamin K is naturally produced in the colon with aids in coagulation function of the blood. Include probiotics in your diet. Yogurt provides essential probiotics to the body which in turn are essential to maintain the balance between healthy and harmful bacteria
- Avoid highly concentrated carbohydrates and fats. These are difficult to absorb and overstrain the liver and the gall bladder.
