High Fever Natural Remedies

A fever incinerates microorganisms in the body that cause an infection. Even though it’s a part of our natural defenses, there could be times when it may be advisable to moderate the increase in temperature. It is worth saying that, from the perspective of natural health, a fever is seen as a good thing.

A fever is the body’s natural way of killing viruses, bacteria, and even cancer cells.  But a fever still needs to be controlled as it can lead to brain damage and death if it gets too high.

Normal body temperature is about 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. We might have the flu if our temperature goes above this temperature. A fever starts to become dangerous only after it exceeds 102.2 degrees Fahrenheit. Above 105.8 degrees Fahrenheit, death will likely occur.

Home Remedies for High Fever

There are some simple ways to cure high fever. These tips are easy enough to do and everyone can surely do them.

An age-old natural remedy to bring down a high fever within minutes is to dip a towel in ice water, squeeze out the excess water, and place the cold towel on your hot forehead.

Do this at least 6 to 8 times or longer until the fever goes down.

One of the natural cure for fever is to drink more liquids, especially water, as your body perspires to help cool down your body temperature.

Other than an ice-cold wet towel, an ice pack is sometimes recommended for high fever. A more effective method would be to use tofu. A tofu plaster can readily absorb heat. Here are the steps in making a tofu plaster:

  • Mash about half a kilogram of tofu in a bowl.
  • To get a paste, slowly add some unbleached white flour but not too much or else the dough can easily crumble. If that happens, add soy milk, water, or more tofu.
  • Spread the tofu plaster thinly across the forehead.
  • Cover with a dry towel.

Tofu plaster can also be used to treat burns, by applying it directly on the burnt skin.

If the person has really high fever, it is time to bring out the shiitake mushroom tea. This tea is considered as one of the most potent remedies for high fever. This drink is so potent that you should take it slowly, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup each time. If you drink too much too fast, your high fever could become worse. Apart from reducing high fever, this tea helps relax a contracted or tense condition.
