Having goopy eyes or the redness of the white part of your child’s eyes including his eyelids is an ordinary symptom of common illnesses among children. It is important to note that the redness or the goopy eyes in toddler is just a mere symptom and not a disease in itself.

What Causes Goopy Eyes

The causes of goopy eyes in children include:

  • Bacterial conjunctivitis
  • Allergies
  • Viral infection
  • Trauma
  • Blocked tear duct

Treatment For Goopy Eyes

Treatment for goopy eyes in kids can be administered at home with the following methods:

  • Get a piece of clean cloth and soak it in lukewarm water.
    Gently apply wet compress on your child’s infected eyes to provide comfort and to get rid of the crusts that prevents your child from opening his eyes.
  • If the causes of goopy eyes is due to allergy, a cool compress should be applied. However, for bacterial and viral infections, warm compress should be applied.
  • You can also use gentle eye drops to get rid of itchiness and irritation.
  • Get a cup of lukewarm water and dip a chamomile tea bag into the cup. Soak a cotton ball and wipe it on the infected eye.
    Throw the cotton right away and do not use it on the other eye. You should also remember not to double dip the cotton as it will spread the bacteria or virus instead of preventing the condition.
