Liver Malfunction | Signs, Symptoms and Diagnosis of Liver Malfunction

One of problems that our body can face is problems associated with our liver. Liver problems seem almost inevitable especially because of the different lifestyles that people exercise. Liver malfunction can happen to people who overlook their health with wrong health practices such as alcoholism, medicine intake, and other body-damaging habits. Failure in the liver organ is a sign of deterioration in the function of this body part. Certain diseases can be traced from malfunction in the liver like hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver damage.

Due to abusive activities that we engage in, the liver eventually gives in and makes the body suffer.

The following are just some of the signs of liver malfunction that can strike a person.

  • Because of unhealthy substances entering the body, the liver reaches a point where it can no longer process the waste product from mature red blood cells called bilirubin. This waste product needs to be broken down to avoid jaundice or the yellowing of the skin, an indication of hepatitis.
  • When there is liver malfunction, the liver experiences difficulty in synthesizing proteins which is needed in blood clotting. This would most like result in coagulopathy or the formation of bruises and bleeding.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Liver Malfunction

Liver malfunction symptoms come in different signs, and among these are jaundice, hepatic encephalopathy, ascites, and failure in the overall health of the body. Individuals suffering from liver failure also experience other symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, weakness, and loss in appetite. In cases of a chronic or severe malfunction in the liver, health deterioration can be dramatic and gradual wherein bleeding occurs. Thus, a person tends to bleed and bruise quite easily. The frequency of bleeding varies from patient to patient. In other people with liver problems, the bleeding can be slight and may eventually stop, while in some, physicians find the bleeding difficult to control. Diagnosis and treatment for liver malfunction is usually done under a series of blood tests to see how grave the problem is.
