Medical fraternity does not recommend melatonin’s use in children. There is no data available to support its effectiveness in healthy children.
Healthy children may have side effects in the form of dreams and night mares. Stomach pain, headache, irritability and depression are noted in children who have neurological problem. Some children can also precipitate epilepsy. Looking at the side effects, it is necessary to consult your doctor before giving the supplement of melatonin to a child.
Depression is another side effect which many adults face who consume melatonin.
Low Melatonin Levels Symptoms
Low levels of melatonin and weight gain are correlated. The good night 8 to 9 hours sleep is diminished when melatonin level is low.
