Antral gastritis is one of the many types of gastritis discovered by gastroenterologists. This is thought to be an autoimmune type of disease. By the name itself, antral gastritis is the inflammation of the gastric mucosa specifically in the antrum or antral region of the stomach. This type of gastritis is common among elderlies or people aging 60 years above. Antral gastritis in children is a rare case. It is important that this gastritis is treated during its earliest stages so as to prevent it from extending to other parts that will make it harder to treat.

Symptoms of Antral Gastritis in Children

  • Stool changes
  • Flatulence
  • Nausea
  • Ingestion
  • Bloody stools
  • Pain after eating

Causes of Antral Gastritis in Children

  • It may be bacterial or viral in nature
  • Food poisoning
  • Adverse effects of pain medications
  • Stress
  • Alcohol
  • Anemia
  • Crohn’s disease

Treatment for Antral Gastritis in Children

  • Bacterial infection: antibiotics are given first then gastritis is treated
  • Over-the-counter antacids (omeprazole, Zantac, and Pepcid)

Eosinophilic Gastritis in Children

Eosinophils are the front lines of the immune system; they are activated when there is an infection in the body. Eosinophilic gastritis in children is like body sensing food as a harmful intruder instead of a form of nutrition that then activates the immune system.

When food is taken in, eosinophils are activated. But since there are no microorganisms to battle with, it attacks the gastrointestinal walls instead causing damage.

Symptoms of Eosinophilic Gastritis in Children

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal distention
  • Weight loss

Treatment of Eosinophilic Gastritis in Children

Unfortunately, no cure has been discovered for this disorder yet. What can be done instead is to alleviate the symptoms and discomfort such as the following:

  • Avoiding foods that cause reaction
  • Simple diet of amino acid based food supplement
  • Corticosteroids

    I wonder if there is the possibility of eosinophilic gastritis can be caused by infection with parasites are abundant (more than 5 different), I know a case where the food allergy tests are negative, but still has the disease.
