Keloid develops typically after 3 months once the wound is healed. It may even develop after a year. Keloid has a rubbery feeling and it proliferates beyond the border of wound. Sometimes it may itch and burn. In the beginning the color of keloid is light red or pink, but gradually it becomes dark brown.

There are several options available, but no single treatment may prove hundred percent effective. A combination of treatment often resolves the condition or at least reduces the size of keloid.

  • Steroids: Keloids on eyebrows often respond to injected steroid. Steroids are often given at an interval of 2 weeks until improvement is seen.
  • Surgery for keloid on eyebrows can even lead to bigger scar formation. However, some surgeons begin steroid injections within few days of surgery. The results are not promising in some cases.
  • Keloid on eyebrows can be removed by cryotherapy. It is the procedure where the keloid is freezed with liquid nitrogen. The results are promising in combination with steroid injections in the keloid.
  • Laser treatment is proved best among all. Pulsed dye laser is used to reduce the size of keloid. However, since the keloid is near the eye, precautions are taken while treating it.

Home Remedies For Piercing Keloid

Home remedies are also effective in treating keloid on eyebrows. But it may take months before you see any positive results.

  • A paste prepared by mixing baking soda and few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide helps to reduce the size. Apply it regularly over keloid.
  • Apply apple cider vinegar. Since it is irritable to delicate skin of eyebrows, dilute it with water before applying it.
  • Grapefruit seed extract is found effective in dealing with eyebrow piercing keloid. Mix grapefruit seed oil with warm water. Dip a Q tip in it and paint the keloid with the soaked tip. Apply it once in a day. The keloid will disappear after few weeks or months.
  • Tea tree oil or lavender oil is also beneficial in reducing the size of keloid on eyebrows. Use it in diluted form. Take precautions to prevent the oil entering in the eye.
