Yellow tongue is occasionally seen as a symptom of acid reflux. Infrequently, acid reflux yellow tongue is associated with bad breath and is quite an embarrassing situation. This condition is medically termed as halitosis.

Here are a few tips to get rid of yellow tongue due to acid reflux.

  • Avoid foods like onion, garlic, coffee, etc. These foods are to be blamed for a bad taste in the mouth, and also are responsible for increasing acid reflux. Further, avoid smoking.
  • Herbal teas, especially fennel tea has been found effective in treating halitosis and acid reflux.
  • Don’t skip meals. Ensure that you take your meals on time.
  • Have dinner a couple of hours before bedtime. Also never lie down immediately after having a meal. This results in regurgitation of food from the stomach in to the esophagus, which is the primary cause for yellow tongue and bad odor

Remedies For Yellow Tongue

  • One could use peppermint, cinnamon, etc to mask the smell. However, these have limited efficacy and their effect wears out within a few minutes.
  • Regular consumption of milk and milk products helps neutralize the acids in the stomach, which in turn has a beneficial effect in controlling acid reflux.
    Consume milk whenever you feel bloated or if you don’t get the time to have a meal.
  • Stay away from spicy, fatty, refined and processed foods. Also, reduce the intake of caffeinated beverages.
