When Am I Due For My Next Period: Calculating Next Menstrual Cycle

What is the due date for the next period; is a common question asked by many women, who are nearing the date of their periods.

Menstruation is periodic flow of blood from uterus after 28 days on an average; the range can be between 24 to 32 days.

Menstruation occurs as a result of hemorrhagic destruction of the endometrium due to non fertilization of ovum.

When Am I Due For My Next Period?

Menstrual flow usually lasts for 3 to 7 days; the average amount of blood lost during the periods is about 5 to 8 ounces.

The periods usually begin between 12 to 14 years, but it can occur 1 to 2 years earlier or later in a girl. It always depends on individual. During the first few years the periods may be irregular as the body adjusts to the hormones.

When a person is supposed to get next period depends on many factors, such as the diet, weight, stress, illness, exercise or eating disorder or hormonal imbalance as in PCOS.

Calculating Next Menstrual Cycle

Considering your cycle to be of 28 days and regular, you can calculate first day of last menstruation as day 1 for the next cycle to come.

So if the first day of last menstruation is 1 January, than the expected date of next period is 28th January. But a woman can bleed two to three days earlier or later also. There is no scientific way to predict the exact date of your periods, yes, an approximate or an estimated date can be given.

No two women are alike, and therefore every woman’s periods are not same.  And if the periods are irregular then it is difficult to predict the exact date.
