Pruritus Vulvae Causes: Natural Cure for Vaginal Itching or Pruritus Vulvae

What is Pruritus Vulvae?

Pruritus means severe itching. It is not a disease in itself, but is a symptom. Vulva is the name given to the entrance to the vagina. Pruritus vulvae, is a disorder characterized by sensation of severe itching of external female genitalia. About ten percent of women throughout the world suffer from this problem. It is often an early sign of diabetes mellitus. It may even be a sign of vaginitis.
In the early stages of Pruritus vulvae, scratching provides some relief. This problem usually occurs at night time.

When the patient is asleep she may scratch the area without realizing and can cause some bruises and bleeds. As the disease progresses the patient develops a burning sensation. At a later stage the Pruritus vulvae intensifies to such an extent that it affects the social life of the patient.

Causes of Vaginal Itching or Pruritus Vulvae

  1. Vaginal discharge that contains pus and/or mucus with pus is the main factor that causes Pruritus vulvae. About 80% of cases occur due to this cause. Due to this discharge there is itching and due to rubbing and friction the vulva region often turns sore or is injured and this causes tenderness in the region and further pain.
    About 20% of Pruritus vulvae cases are caused in absence of vaginal discharge.
  2. Sensitivity to certain kinds of bath salts, soaps and antiseptics and certain drugs can also cause Pruritus vulvae.
  3. Tight fitting and synthetic clothes can cause allergies and progress to Pruritus vulvae.
  4. Scabies, Seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis are skin diseases that are not specific to vulva but they may further proceed and develop into Pruritus vulvae.
  5. Certain animal and vegetable parasite infections can cause Pruritus vulvae.
  6. Highly acidic urine causes soreness which ultimately leads to Pruritus.
  7. Diabetes and Glycosuria also contribute to this condition.
  8. Certain major problems like uremia, jaundice and other toxic conditions in rare cases can develop Pruritus vulvae as side effects.
  9. Guilty feelings and sexual frustration are other factors.

Vaginal Itching Home Remedies

  1. Cleanliness is one of the most important factor in the treatment of Pruritus vulvae, especially where infections through fungus or parasites is involved. A natural diet and enema helps to keep the bowels clean. To avoid infections the patient should wear clean clothes.
  2. After urinating the vagina should be thoroughly washed with plain cold water.
  3. Leaves of lilac are found very useful in the treatment of severe Pruritus. Wash the vulva region with decoction prepared from leaves of lilac. Also apply coconut oil charged with green light.
  4. Psoriasis, scabies and fungal infections should be treated with steam bath, mud bath, sun bath, immersion and spine baths and chromo therapy.
  5. Mud packs are also highly beneficial for inflammation caused by discharges from the uterus, cervix or vagina. Apply mud packs regularly on the lower abdomen twice a day. A cold hipbath can also be taken for ten minutes. An alternate cold and hot hipbath helps to reduce inflammation.
  6. Vaginal douches with decoction of lilac leaves helps to kill bacteria and fungus. The affected region should be exposed to green light for about thirty minutes to reduce infections.
  7. Diet plays a very important role in the treatment of Pruritus vulvae. To begin with the patient should adopt a juices only diet for few days, take only fruit and vegetable juices diluted with 50% water and after the juice diet fruits, sprouts, salads, vegetable soup or buttermilk can be included in the diet.
  8. Alcohol and smoking should be given up completely. Avoid white flour, sugar, eggs, meat, spicy and oily foods; tea and coffee.

    There is a cure if it actually is an infection or something. But vaginal discharge is normal and you will have it all of your life but it shouldn’t be excessive. If your worried and having too much, then go and see your doc. Different women have different amounts so dont worry. wear panty-liners so you feel more clean and comfy.
