Health advice to stop excessive Menstruation (Menorrhagia)
A normal menstrual blood loss is 50-80ml and does not exceed 100ml. and in Menorrhagia the menstrual cycle is not altered but the duration and quantity of the menstrual loss is increased.
Menorrhagia is essentially a symptom and not a disease in itself. This disorder is also termed as dysfunction uterine bleeding (DUB).
In large number of cases excessive bleeding is not associated with any structural abnormality in the pelvis or evidence either of general disease or any endocrine disorder.
Causes of Menorrhagia (Heavy menstrual flow)
- The underlying cause may be difficult to detect.
The cause of excessive blood loss during menstrual cycle can be divided into
- Those due to some general disease
- Those which are local in pelvis
- Those caused by endocrine disorder
- Hormonal.
To stop excessive blood loss during menstruation the cause has to be treated. Even psychological disorders, emotional upset, matrimonial disharmony and anxiety states are undoubtedly important factors.
Preventing excessive menstrual flow (Menorrhagia)
- Exercise is to be completely avoided in this condition.
- Complete mental and physical rest and reassurance is a must during this condition.
- While sleeping the foot of the bed should be slightly elevated.
Natural Remedies for Menorrhagia
- If the bleeding is not very heavy and the hemoglobin content is normal, observation for few months is to be done. Spontaneous cure is possible and can be awaited.
- Those fruits which contain vitamin C, are useful in controlling bleeding. Gooseberry is one of them. It has a rich source of vitamin C, it can be taken in any form.
- Pomegranate is a useful remedy in this condition. Take 7-8 leaves of pomegranate and add to it, seven to eight grains of rice. Add very little amount of water. Make it in paste form. Take this preparation two times in a day. This should be continued for 30 days.
