I have been having irregular periods that is heavy for two days and then a gap of three days and then spotting for almost alternate days some times with gaps of three days for the past 45 days. I am 55 years old and my menstural cycle has been almost normal until a year ago. Is there cause for worry should i consult a doctor?
What you are suffering from is peri-menopausal complaints. There doesn’t seem to be a reason for you to worry unless you have any of the following symptoms,
1. Abdominal pains or cramps during the bleeding
2. Symptoms of weakness and excessive tiredness
3. Significant weight loss or loss of appetite
4. Excessive mood swings and depression
Please make sure you consume abundant green leafy vegetables, dry fruits, dates, beet, and tomatoes, to avoid anemia, which may occur due to excessive blood loss.
Also, drink at least 3 liters of water each day, to prevent dehydrations or other symptoms of ‘hypovolemia’ arising from excessive loss of fluids.
Do consult your doctor and specifically get your Pap smear done. PAP smear is a screening test for cervical carcinoma and it is recommended at your age (though you don’t need to worry much about it).
I am 52, my menopause problems seem to never end, hot flushes, heavy bleeding (due to fibroids). This time it’s been extremely heavy bleeding, last 15 days. I hope something is not terribly wrong. Gynecologist says not to worry.
I am 44 years old healthy female and my periods have stopped two months back. Is it menopause time? It seems my mother had also stopped getting her periods in her forties.
