Hormonal Imbalance Signs
Most of the hormonal imbalance is seen from start of the menstrual age i.e. menarche and till the end of the menstrual age i.e. menopause.
Menarche is commencement of menstruation and is usually associated with several symptoms. Most common of the hormonal imbalance symptoms are abdominal cramps and bloating, low back pain, headache, swelling of breast tissue with pain and tenderness, anxiety, nervousness, mood swings, fatigue, acne etc.
Liver is the center for hormone balance. It filters out selectively from blood excess unwanted hormones. Estradoil is one of the hormones which are important in causing the problems if it is not excreted out of the body.
Imbalance in estrogen and progesterone levels also leads to retention of fluid, due to excess estrogen as compared to progesterone.
- Amenorrhea is absence of menstruation for three months at least.
Scanty menstrual cycle or oligomenorrhea can be caused due to hormonal imbalance, stress, depression, extreme loss of weight or severe and chronic illness. Ovarian and uterine disorders can also cause scanty menstruation. - Menorrhagia is more the normal (heavier) cycles. This can be caused due to fibroids or uterine polyps or even cancer. Contraceptive devices (intrauterine or IUD) are one of the causes of hormonal imbalance and other cause for hormone disorder is hypothyroidism.
- Dysmenorrhea or excessive abdominal (lower) pain is a common symptom in half the cases. After 1 or 2yrs of commencement of menstruation ovulation starts. Prostaglandin is the hormone which increases after ovulation and leads to this type of pain. This type of symptom usually subsides after 25yrs of age.
Menopause is important age when hormonal imbalance takes place. At menopause menstruation ceases. When menopause occurs there is starvation of hormones. Estrogen supply is decreased leading to heart disease, bone destruction (osteoporosis) and atrophy of vagina. During normal menopausal cycle the liver and adrenals increases the output of hormones. This helps in matching the functions which are lost due to ovarian atrophy.
Symptoms of menopause are hot flashes, calcium metabolism disturbance, anxiety, irritability, back pain, dryness of skin and aging, palpitations, insomnia etc.
