Breast Cancer:
Breast cancer is greatly linked to the diet that a women eats when she is young, states a new research.
The study says that the girl’s diet and her level of physical activity determine the chances of breast cancer growth.
The study was conducted on 1146 girls from the time of birth to the age of 13 years.
Professor Jaak Janssens, the president of the European Cancer Prevention Organization, in Belgium led the clinical trial.
Childhood obesity, lack of exercise, and a high consumption of processed foods were the strong determining factors influencing the onset of puberty.
Breast Cancer Cause:
Pesticides used for cultivation of crops have a strong carcinogenic effect. They are responsible for the increased incidences of breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Facts:
- 85 % of all cancers are related to diet, lifestyle, and environment factors.
- The goal in prevention is to reduce the controllable factors that are linked to cancer.
Early Detection of Breast Cancer:
- Women who are 40 years and above, should have an annual clinical breast examination done.
- Also an annual mammogram for them is essential.
- Women in the age group of 20 to 30 years should do a monthly self breast examination.
- And also, a 3 yearly clinical breast examination by a specialist is recommended.
Preventing Breast Cancer:
- Enhance your intake of anti-oxidants.Anti-oxidants fight free radical damage and thus protect against cancer. Certain foods like broccoli, strawberries, tomatoes, garlic, and turmeric are packed with anti-oxidants.
- Limit your daily exposure to dietary and environment sources of free radicals. For e.g., reduce your consumption of processes and denatured foods. Also, stay away from cigarette smoke – active or passive.
Diet for Breast Cancer:
- Eat small frequent meals through the day, rather than few large ones.
- Stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids. Dehydration can have adverse effects. Fluid is necessary to flush out the build up of drug toxins and also enhance the removal dead cell debris.
- Drink a high protein smoothie once or twice a day.
Food prescriptions:
- Inclusion of good quality proteins in the diet is important. Proteins are very important especially when the patient shows signs of cachexia (excessive weight loss) or is on to chemotherapy. Protein boosts the blood count, peps up the immune system and prevents the occurrence of infections.
- Whey protein is ideal. It is a complete protein because it has all the essential and non essential amino acids. In addition, whey contains amino acid glutamine. This makes the whey protein have a very high biological value. Glutamine is a source of fuel for white blood cells and prevents a suppression of the immune system in patients receiving chemotherapy.
- Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Cancers require a surgical intervention.
- Mastectomy is the treatment of choice, with or without radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
