There are many anti-aging products on the market that promise to slow-down, stop or reverse the aging process. These treatments range from topical solutions used to treat symptoms of aging such as wrinkling to medications and hormone replacement. Foods, drinks and formula are available to supplement a normal diet to combat aging. In addition some topical solutions and supplements used for age related issues also contain vitamins such as A, C, and E. The idea behind many of these anti-aging products is that antioxidants from vitamin rich formulas will provide protection from free radicals and inflammation to leading causes of the deterioration of health tissues and organs over time.

Many topical treatments for anti-aging contain these antioxidants as well as other ingredients like retinoids, elastin and curcumin, a pigment found in turmeric. In addition, many anti-aging products designed for skin care include copper peptides and idebenone (a derivative of CoQ10 an antioxidant). Topical anti-aging creams, salves, lotions and peels seek to restore the skin by getting rid of build up and debris and by stimulating the growth of new, healthier skin.

Hormones such as HGH (human growth hormone), testosterone, progesterone, melatonin and estrogen are included in many anti-aging products. Hormones decrease in age and it is believed that their loss to the body is felt in every system. Anti-aging products containing hormones supplement the bodies dwindling supply. Women who are perimenopausal, menopausal or postmenopausal are frequently given hormone treatment to treat a host of symptoms.

For instance hormones can treat hot flashes and night sweats, but are also used to strengthen bone, and help repair thinning skin. Testosterone is used to treat loss of libido and muscle loss. Hormones can be taken as a pill, in an injection or as a topical cream. There are side-effects and risks associated with hormone use. In addition, there are synthetic hormones, bio-identical hormones and hormone like substances that are found in plants such as soy.
