Sphere: Related ContentInositol is a member of the vitamin B group. It is a crystalline compound which has a sweet taste. It is highly soluble in water, and is not destroyed by heat in neutral, acid, and alkaline mediums. It is however, destroyed by sulphur drugs, food-processing techniques, alcohol, and coffee.
Over 99 per cent of ingested inositol is absorbed by the body. However, absorption is slow. It is catabolic in the kidneys, where it is converted to glucose.
