Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin essential for growth and mineralization of bones. Besides this vitamin D plays an important role in many metabolic processes in the body.

Depression And Vitamin D Deficiency

Besides fatigue, vitamin D deficiency also causes depression and anxiety. The incidence has increased due to habit of living in atmosphere devoid of sunlight.

Researchers have found that due to less exposure to sunlight, cases of mood swings and depression have increased since last century. Rapid urbanization has contributed this problem.

The circulating 25(OH) D level gets affected due to deficient sunlight.

Vitamin D is utilized in brain function in neurons and glial cell.

Treatment For Vitamin D Deficiency

  • When multiple symptoms of fatigue and depression occur you should test for vitamin D level in the blood. Together with it calcium level is also measured.
  • Exposure to sunlight, consuming food containing vitamin D such as fish, milk, eggs, beef liver, mushrooms and milk products.
  • Fortified foods are also valuable. Supplements in the form of fish oil and omega 3 fatty acids can be consumed.
