A Hemorrhoid, also known as piles is a familiar disorder as many people suffer from it. At least fifty percent of Americans may have suffered from it some time in their life. Anal tissue is made up of connective tissue, blood vessels and muscles.

A hemorrhoid is an inflammation or enlargement of the veins in this tissue caused by frequent increased pressure in the abdomen or in the anal region. Hemorrhoid can be external and internal. It is external hemorrhoid that can be felt as hard and itchy skin tag which in many cases is painful condition.

Cause Of Hemorrhoids Skin Tags

Hemorrhoid skin tag forms when an external hemorrhoid gets thrombosed, or when a piece of skin is left hanging after the external pile has healed. On many occasions the tag when left alone does not cause any problem, however sometimes they become a hindrance in cleaning the anal area.

It may be followed by an irritating itch and a person tends to scratch the area. Intense scratching can cause bleeding in anal region. Though not harmful condition, it may be very embarrassing and nuisance to have a hemorrhoid skin tag.

Hemorrhoids Skin Irritation

Skin around the anus is often irritated due to hemorrhoid skin tag. Itching in the anal region which is medically known as pruritis ani and it is one of the symptoms of hemorrhoid skin tag. Due to itching, person scratches and this causes further irritation and subsequently the skin around the anus becomes sore and bruised.

Once the skin around the anus breaks down due to excessive rubbing and scratching, the area becomes moist and creates an environment for fungus to grow. Open sores and skin rash become susceptible to bacterial infection which is the major cause for hemorrhoid skin irritation.

 Removing Skin Tags From Hemorrhoids

  • Most cases do not need any treatment.
  • If there are many skin tags around the anal ring or if the hemorrhoid skin tag is big and it causes irritation and other problems it has to be removed surgically.
  • When hemorrhoid skin tags are small, they can be removed easily by the doctor under local anesthesia.
  • If the hemorrhoid skin tag is large it has to be removed in an operating theater.
  • To avoid surgery, you have to practice good personal hygiene so that the chances of infection and rash reduce. Keep the anal area clean and avoid using rough toilet paper. Use wet paper wipes or pre-moistened wipes.
  • Sitz baths two to three times daily helps to reduce itching and soreness of hemorrhoid skin tag.
  • Wear cotton undergarments and lose clothing.
  • Eat fiber rich food and avoid foods and beverages that aggravate hemorrhoids.
