Worm Infections from Ringworm, Tapeworm, Pinworm
Worm Infections are parasitic conditions that can produce major health problems, especially in tropical and underdeveloped countries.
Symptoms of Worm Infections
Infections sometimes may exhibit no symptoms at all. When symptoms do occur they –
- Pinworms (Threadworms) - may cause itching of the anal area at night, accompanied by irritability and sleeplessness.
- Hookworms – exhibit physical and mental fatigue; buttocks, legs and feet itch; there is difficulty in breathing and dry cough.
- Tapeworms – maybe indicated by the presence of eggs in stool or worm segments in stool, clothing or bedding. Loss of appetite and weight, fatigue, dizziness and vomiting.

Causes of Worm Infections
- Pinworms trapped under fingernails can re-infect humans. They can re-enter the body through mouth or contaminated food, close contact between infected and uninfected people can also transfer pinworms. Airborne pinworm eggs can be inhaled and swallowed.
- When a person walks barefoot on soil contaminated by cat, dog or human feces, hookworm enters the skin.
- When incompletely cooked fish, beef or pork is consumed tapeworm eggs enter the body. They hatch and thrive on the human intestine.
How to prevent tapeworm, ringworm and pinworm Infections?
- Worms present in the food can be killed, by cooking food thoroughly under high heat. Raw meat or fish dishes should be avoided.
- In unfamiliar areas wearing shoes will prevent contamination from hookworm.
- Nails should be cut short and kept clean. Before eating and after petting your animals or after using the bathroom, hands should be washed thoroughly with soap and water.
- All cooking utensils and knives used for raw meat should be washed thoroughly with soap and water.
- Don’t go to restaurant, which is unhygienic.
- Your cat and dogs should be treated for worms regularly.
