Question: I am an esthetician, a client of mine came in to get a facial she informed me of having sensitive skin and eczema on face mostly around her eyes. So I took precaution and used hypoallergenic product. She was not pink during the facial but later in the day after shower she noticed a blister on cheek. She called the next day and I told her to put aloe and come. My question is can she get a blister from the product or from the heat of the facial. Since she has eczema and is sensitive.
Answer:
The condition that is described by you is a typical case of ‘Contact Dermatitis’.
It is possible that your client has a very sensitive skin and any local application would result in appearance of rash or blister, which would itch and burn.
Prevention of Contact Dermatitis:
- Henceforth always test a product before you use for the client. The skin of the forearms behind the palms is very sensitive; you should make it a habit to test the product there.
- Considering that the blister is on the face, your client will be terribly upset with you. Try to convince her that you took all the necessary precautions, but still since her skin was highly sensitive to the product, there is little that you could have done.
- Vaseline, Oil or Aloe will reduce any peeling of the skin and hasten recovery. Local application of yogurt will smoothen the skin.
- A tea spoon of honey, each day will help curb the allergic reaction.
- Local application of prednisolone will control the local allergy and improve the appearance. within a couple of days. However this should be taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
- Homeopathic remedy for contact dermatitis Sulphur 30, 5 pills, twice a day will prove very helpful.
