Many people who suffer with acne prefer to use safe, natural acne care to treat their outbreaks and to prevent new ones. Acne is the result of a combination of factors; the build up of sebum in pores, bacteria (P. acne), inflammation and hormones. Natural acne treatments attempt to deal with each of these factors either in isolation, such as a topical skin treatment or as part of a holistic approach that combines dietary and lifestyle changes. The lifestyle changes may be as simple as getting more exercise and reducing stress. Individual needs will vary greatly according to skin type, overall health and nature of the outbreak, but some strategies seem to provide relief for many people across personalities and situations.

Dietary changes are the most basic of all natural acne care treatments. Including foods that are high in fiber, for instance. Fiber may help the body eliminate toxics that can contribute directly or indirectly to acne. Another beneficial addition to the diet is leafy, green vegetables such as leaf lettuce, spinach and kale. These vegetables are full of Vitamin A and zinc nutrients that are important for healthy skin. Other Vitamins that seem to provide skin beneficial properties are vitamins B2 and B6. Foods that are rich in these nutrients are fish, carrots, banana and grape. Vitamin E rich foods like nuts may be a good addition to the diet as well.

Some people have a measure of success using skin washes made from lemon or garlic water. Rosemary and thyme have been used traditionally to treat acne as well. Still others have used a formulation of milk and lime juice that is safe and gentle to the skin. In addition, there are commercial products available that contain many of these herbs and that are designed specifically as part of a natural acne care regiment.
