This article presents skincare tips for children. We will also learn teenagers’ skin problems and useful tips to tackle them.

AGE 1 – 12 YEARS

• Even though children have normal skin you have to take care of their skin.
• Preferably use soft water and a good soap every morning and evening.
• Use cold water and rinse several times to remove all traces of soap.
• To keep the skin soft and protect it apply light moisturizing baby lotion.

• If you want to make the water soft. First boil water and let it stand (cool). Add little tincture of benzoin and boric acid.
• Protect children from radiation. An hour of radiation damages children more than adults. So children should use sunscreens.
• Mix equal quantities of baby lotion and calamine lotion to make homemade unscreen. Add a pinch of zinc oxide before children go in the sun.
• To prevent sunburn – Mix equal quantities of olive oil and vinegar and apply to the area exposed. Leave for an hour before washing off with mild soap.

ADOLESCENCE

• Hormonal changes in the body at this age usually lead to oily skin and acne. So a lot of skin care should be taken.
• Over activity of oil glands results in a greasy skin that is shiny with blackheads, open pores.

• Wash your face twice a day with warm water and a non-alkaline soap. Spray it with soda water. Lemon or apple juice and cucumber are natural astringent that work wonders.
• A face pack or facemask once a week is very beneficial. Use beaten egg white with a few drops of lemon juice. Keep it on for around 15 minutes; rinse off with lukewarm water.
• At night use liquid make-up remover to remove make-up. Cleanse with an astringent. Wash off with a non-alkaline soap and warm water.
• In the morning wash with soap and water. Then use skin tonic that has small content of spirit. Then apply calamine lotion or moisturizing lotion.
• Twice a week clean clogged pores with a cleansing treatment. Use warm water to moisten your face and hands. Take a teaspoon of cleansing granules in the palm, work lather and apply to the face. Concentrate on blackhead areas and clogged pores. Gently massage for a few seconds. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water.
• Acne is a major problem during Adolescence. Spots appear due to inflammation at the mouth of the oil glands.
• Avoid starchy and spiced foods, use non-alkaline soaps and avoid products that contain Vaseline as a precautionary measure to prevent acne.
• Every morning apply an anti-acne lotion and allow it to dry. Then use calamine lotion with 1 %  phenol for protection from the sun. And every night after removing the make-up wash with soap and water. Then apply an anti-acne cream and leave it overnight.
