Bacterial Skin Infection Causes
Bacterial infection of the skin is called as cellulites. Here an area of skin and the underlying tissues become infected by the bacteria, that enter through a small, possibly unnoticed wound. The infection causes redness, pain and swelling and most commonly affects the legs. When it occurs on the scalp, it is non-localized inflammation without suppuration. Symptoms appear gradually over several hours. Elderly people are especially vulnerable to cellulites because many of them have poor circulation leading to edema or leg ulcers and increase the risk of infection.
Others at increased risk of cellulites, include intravenous drug abusers and those with diabetes. Ulcerated cellulites may cause septicemia, a serious blood infection. Cellulites may recur if you have a persistent immune or circulatory problem.
Prevention of bacterial infection of the Skin
- If the leg is infected, it should be kept elevated, to reduce swelling. Bacterial skin infection in any other area, it should be cleaned and dressing to be applied daily, for early healing. Dressing should be done with betadine solution.
- Eat food rich in vitamin B and C for early healing of the wound.Richest sources are guavas, red sweet peppers, parsley, turnip greens, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and all fresh fruits and vegetables (especially green and leafy).
Home Remedies for Bacterial Infection of the Skin
- Herbs are applied locally to the area, to cleanse skin impurities. To purify the blood, it is taken internally as well. These include dandelion, which improves liver function and prevents internal toxicity. Prepare an infusion of the fresh juice from the leaves and roots and apply it over the area inside the dressing.
- An infusion of leaves and or buds from the white birch also helps in this condition, about 10 ml of this infusion should be taken twice a day.
- A decoction is prepared with rhizome and roots of knee holly. This lotion can be used for local application and it will invigorate the tissues, promote venous circulation and reduce cellulites.
- Calendula is very useful in early healing of the skin bacterial infection. Apply this 3 to 4 times in a day over the wound. This also promotes circulation around the wound and helps in healing of skin infection.
