Natural Cures for Cough and Phlegm:
Cough and phlegm is usually seen in condition called as bronchitis. There is almost continual coughing, which brings up quantities of mucus and phlegm. There can be shortness of breath associated with it.
Bronchitis can be defined as bronchial inflammation which is mostly superseded by obstruction of the air passages with the mucous collected in the bronchi.
Bronchitis of chronic origin is a continuous condition which is caused due to frequent attacks of bronchitis (acute). It can also be caused due to continuous irritation of the bronchi.
Usual causative factor is smoke of tobacco leading to allergic reaction. Manufacturing companies of tobacco are the only ones who are benefited from it.
Preventing Bronchitis:
- Do’s include removing the causative factor as much as you can (smoke, dust, pollen etc.). One can prevent acute attacks by avoiding damp places and rooms which are too much heated, alcohol and too much of eating. Regime one should follow to keep oneself healthy and fit so that the immunity of the person remains well maintained and helps clearing the disease as much early as possible. This regime includes diet which is rich in nutrition, regular exercise in clean environment which may enhance breathing capacity (pranayam and yoga) and helps increase the function of the lungs.
- Breathe deeply. Blow up a balloon several times everyday. This helps open up and enlarge the airways. Deep breathing exercises should be taken 3-4 times a day. Take a deep breath, hold it a few seconds and exhale. Do this 10-20 times. This will help air out the infected area.
- Apply a heating compress at night.
Home Remedies for Bronchitis:
- Helpful treatment for bronchitis can be made from milk of almonds and Aniseeds tea. Blend six tablespoons of almonds for preparing milk in approximately half a liter of water and consume this two times in a day.
- Holy basil, black pepper and ginger are taken equally. All three are mixed in 100ml water and boiled. The water is heated till the amount is reduced to approximately half the quantity of the 100ml. the preparation is then taken thrice per day till symptoms reduce.
- One of the old kitchen remedy for bronchitis is taking two grams powder of pure turmeric. Add this powder to 100ml of lukewarm milk. This preparation is to be consumed two times in a day. Bacterial origin cough are usually checked by this preparation. This method should be followed for two weeks al least or till one gets complete relief from the condition.
- Swallowing a little cayenne and lobelia will help break up the congestion and help you breath freely.
