Laryngitis Causes, Treatments:
Scratchy throat, cough and hoarseness are the general symptoms of laryngitis. Usually it is the acute viral or bacterial infection of the larynx. Air pollution can also lead to irritation in the throat. See your physician immediately in case of severe breathing difficulty, high fever and in pus formation wherein white spots are visible in the throat.
Attention: Sometimes in rare cases, small children may have attacks of croup like coughing with breathing difficulty. Call the doctor immediately if this happens.
Symptoms, Remedies for Laryngitis:
- Develops shivering suddenly because of a cold, draft from driving a car, dry wind or becoming frightened; skin is hot and red; throat feels as if it has been caught tightly, has a short, dry cough; has nightmares and anxious feelings; particularly children; face is pale when sitting up and flushed when lying down.
Worse – Motion, wind, cold
Better – Quiet, rest
Remedy – Aconitum 30
(Depending on the severity, one dose is taken every fifteen to sixty minutes, but not more than a total of five doses; if experienced one or two doses of two hundred potency of the medicine can be taken)
- Burning pain in the throat; spells of dry cough with difficulty in breathing; completely hoarse voice in the morning; better after coughing; has no nose bleeds.
Worse – Sleep, lying down, wetness, cold
Better – Fresh air, quiet, warmth
Remedy – Ammonium carbonicum 30
- Unexpected beginning of hoarseness and scratchy throat; often when voice has been overused; there can be temporary loss of voice (often for trainers, teachers, singer)
Worse – Warm rooms
Better – Warm drinks
Remedy – Arum triphyllum 30
- Sudden, violent pain with high fever; burning in the throat; swallowing is very painful; wants to remain under bed covers in spite of being hot; skin is hot and sweaty; face is bright red; spasms of dry cough; wants to drink something cold.
Worse – Talking, cold, nights
Better – Rest, quiet
Remedy – Belladonna 30
- Rough voice in the morning due to cold, dry weather/wind; throat is dry and painful; mucus doesn’t come up when you cough; while coughing, drops of urine dribble.
Worse – Dry/hot weather, dry/cold weather
Better – After drinking cold fluids, when able to cough up mucus
Remedy – Causticum 200
- Swelling and pain in the lymph nodes, very sensitive to touch; attacks of painful cough with difficulty in breathing; bad breath.
Worse – In the early morning hours, cold
Better – Moist warmth
Remedy – Hepar sulfuris 6 or 30 (one dose every half an hour, but only for two hours)
- Hoarseness, hollow-sounding; burning pain especially when swallowing and coughing; sometimes throat bleeds; wants to drink something cold, but situation worsens when exposed to external cold; afraid of thunderstorms. Particularly for singers
Remedy – Phosphorus 200
- Rough voice and painful when swallowing; difficulty in breathing; has swollen lymph nodes that are very sensitive to touch; cough is short and dry; must clear throat constantly; is very fearful.
Worse – Nights, after midnight, motion, external heat
Better – Eating, warm liquids, cold
Remedy – Spongia 30
