How to Treat Laryngitis or Sore Throat | Treatments for Sore Throat
Question: I have swollen glands on left side of throat from last 5 days. I’m finding difficulty in swallowing water also. I tried Medison and Losengers for sore throat treatment.

What is laryngitis and its causes?
A sore throat or laryngitis is usually caused by an infection. It may range from mild soreness and indisposition to a very painful condition with difficulty in swallowing.
Do you have fever?
Cough? Nasal discharge? Headache?
Investigation:
Get a throat swab done to identify the infective organism. The posterior nasal discharge should be examined for streptococcus.
Laryngitis Remedies:
- Stay away from any cold food stuff.Do not consume anything from the fridge directly. Let its temperature come down to the room temperature.
- Avoid – yogurt, rice, banana, pickle, fried foods and sugary foods altogether. They cause further irritation to the throat.
- Consume gargle twice a day to cure laryngitis. Use hot water to which a teaspoon of salt has been added.
- Squeeze the juice of 1 lime. To it add 1 tablespoon of honey. Add ½ a glass of hot water. Consume this mixture daily for one week to treat sore throat. Lime is packed with vitamin C and anti-oxidants which fight infections. Honey alleviates the throat of irritation and pain.
- Turmeric is a very popular and well-known home remedy for laryngitis, which shows speedy results. Add two spoons turmeric powder to 1 glass of hot milk. This should be had first thing in the morning.
- Eat soft, steamed, lightly cooked, and bland foods which will not hurt the throat.
- Homoeopathic remedy – drosera, is ideal and greatly beneficial. It is indicated in cases of sore throat, with intense irritation, hoarseness and pain. The person cannot talk or swallow.
