Question: I have swollen glands on left side of throat from last 5 days. I’m finding difficulty in swallowing water also. I tried Medison and Losengers for sore throat treatment.

What is laryngitis and its causes?

A sore throat or laryngitis is usually caused by an infection. It may range from mild soreness and indisposition to a very painful condition with difficulty in swallowing.

Invariably, the glands around the throat, the submandibular glands get inflamed and swollen. Once the infection is cured, the glands will subside.

Do you have fever?
Cough? Nasal discharge? Headache?

Investigation:

Get a throat swab done to identify the infective organism. The posterior nasal discharge should be examined for streptococcus.
