How to Get Rid of the Flu | Influenza Management and Prevention
Question: I started with a tickly cough on Tuesday which turned into a chesty cough on Wednesday. By Thursday, I felt weak and slept for 15 hours. Last night I had flu symptoms with sneezing, fever and still chesty cough. Today there is a lot of headache and chesty cough.
Answer:
With swine flu on the upswing, it would be advisable to get a test for it as soon as possible. Diagnosis of flu-like symptoms has become highly crucial.
Do you have watering of eyes?
Discharge from the nose?
Fever?
Nausea or diarrhoea?
Avoid places that are too crowded.
Influenza management and Prevention:
- Boost your immune system. Eat well, although you might have a poor appetite.
- Soups, porridges, rice gruels, barley water, milk, pulses are foods that will give you lots of strength and provide good resistance to influenza.
- Embark on a fluid diet until the fever subsides.
- Gradually start onto soft, easy to digest foods.
- Avoid – banana, fried food, sugar and yogurt.They trigger a bout of coughing and irritate the throat.
- Take 2 limes with 2 spoons honey and 2 spoons powdered pepper. This combination helps prevent complications.
- Hot water gargles are a must.
- Turmeric has wonderful anti-septic properties. Consume hot milk to which a spoon of turmeric has been added.
- A mixture made from – cardamom, cinnamon, pepper and clove powders, mixed with honey is an excellent expectorant.
- Drosera, a homoeopathy remedy cures cough instantaneously. Take 5 pills every 2 hours.
