Lung congestion is basically the result of blockage in the nasal passages and can also be a manifestation of presence of irritants in the respiratory tract making breathing difficult and uncomfortable. - Boil a few cups of water then transfer the boiled water to a basin. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil into the water and inhale the vapor to soften the mucus buildup. Steaming is more effective if you would place the basin on a table, get a clean towel and cover your head with it with the basin under your face. - Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C to strengthen your immune system in fighting off bacterial or viral infections.
- Also, get plenty of rest. Sleeping will allow your body to conjure energy and have enough strength to fight off diseases.
- Drink lots of water to moisturize your throat and enable easier breathing and also to expel mucus the natural way thru urination. As much as possible, drink above average amount of water to speed up recovery.
- Fresh fruit juices will also help in boosting your immune system and softening the mucus that causes congestion in lungs.
- You can try aromatherapy using essential oils for bronchitis that help in treating mucus build up and will also calm your system out of coughing too hard in trying to expel the mucus.
- Taking hot soups and chicken broth will effectively loosen up the mucus and make your breathing a lot easier.
