Chronic Laryngitis Home Remedies
Laryngitis is referred to as the inflammation of the larynx, which is also known as the voice box. When this occurs, it usually tends to be painful and quite annoying because your voice would usually change. Women would end up sounding like men because their voice becomes hoarse.
Chronic Laryngitis Causes:
These are mostly the reasons why and individual would usually experience chronic laryngitis.
- Irritation in the vocal cords. This is mostly common among opera singers, and vocalists to name a few. The consistent use of their voice box would tend to tire there larynx to a point they experience a pain in there throat.
- Existing tonsillitis and infection. It would usually descend to the larynx, causing irritation. Once there is irritation in the lining of the vocal cords, it will result to chronic laryngitis.
- Persistent dry cough. Non-productive cough would cause damage and irritation to the lining of the larynx. Because of this, it would likely result to chronic laryngitis.
- Existing periodontal diseases. Diseases in the oral cavity are likely to contaminate and infect nearby organs.
- Too much eating of sweets can also trigger chronic laryngitis.
Treatments for Chronic Laryngitis
There are certain home remedies that can be observed to treat chronic laryngitis. This includes:
- Preparation of ginger slices. Make thick slices out of fresh ginger and eat it like you would on a candy which helps to cure chronic laryngitis. The components of ginger make it soothing to the larynx and help kill the bacteria that caused the laryngitis.
- Gargle on a salt and water solution. Place 2 tablespoons of salt in a glass of water. Stir and you may gargle this 3 times a day after every meal. This is a good home remedy for chronic laryngitis.
- Take some lozenges that would help soothe and relieve the larynx
- Avoid talking too much. Allow your voice box to relax even for just a short period of time.
- Drink a combination of honey and lemon. Use 3 tablespoons of honey and 3 lemons. This works best when taken first thing in the morning.
Preventing Chronic Laryngitis
Here are things you can do to prevent laryngitis and decrease the risk of other complications.
- Observe good oral hygiene. Brushing the teeth after every meal and gargle with a mouthwash.
- Cut down on drinking ice cold water
- Avoid stressing your voicebox. Allow your vocal cords to relax.
