Causes of Chronic Laryngitis or Sinus Infection
Chronic laryngitis and sinus infection comes under chronic upper respiratory tract infection. The larynx is located between the throat and trachea (wind pipe) and contains the vocal cords, laryngitis is rarely serious. Most common cause of chronic laryngitis is smoking. Drinking liquor aggravates the symptom and sometimes laryngitis may be associated with vocal cord nodules.
Chronic laryngitis is also common among those who have to overuse their voice like teachers etc.
How to Prevent Laryngitis or Sinus Infection
- Avoid overuse of voice and talking loudly.Try to give your vocal cords complete rest by not specking for a day.
- Do not smoke and remember that tobacco and alcohol are harmful for good voice.
- Do not go in dusty environment and avoid going in polluted area.
- Watch your diet, eating mucus forming foods such as dairy products, meat, candy, wheat, cold drinks, oily things etc. will aggravate the complaint.
- Hot compresses may be applied to the throat after every three hours.
Natural Remedy for Sinus Infection or Chronic Laryngitis
- White oak bark is excellent for the throat. Add one teaspoon of white oak bark to a cup of boiling water and strain the liquid after cooling it and drink this preparation 4 to 6 times in a day.
- Mix two tablespoons of flax seed and one tablespoon of horehound. Boil in half a liter of water for 15 minutes and strain the liquid. Squeeze one whole lemon into this tea and add a pinch of ginger powder. Take one tablespoon of this preparation every half hourly.
- Licorice is an effective home remedy for treating chronic laryngitis and sinus infection. A small piece of raw licorice should be chewed or sucked 3 to 4 times a day for treating this condition. Healing properties of this herb helps sooth inflammation quickly.
