Month 5 or Week 21-24 of Pregnancy – Role of Dad in Child Care

Fatherhood Tips in Fifth Pregnancy Month:

Your partner appears relatively calm in the second trimester. But you are tired of coping with her toss, turns and domination of a large portion of the bed. Her snoring has also increased and your sleep pattern is affected. As a solution you can opt for ear plugs; sleep in the guest room or on the couch once in a while to catch up on some lost sleep.

You may be thinking about your duties as a dad. Stop worrying and take action.

Practice Makes Perfect:

Most birthing centers and hospitals offer manuals on how to take care of your child once you get him home. Books on babies are available at bookstores and even libraries. Prenatal education classes are also popular.

This enables you to understand how all the parts are supposed to work.

If you are feeling insecure even with all the information and prenatal classes, then a hands-on experience with a real baby would probably boost your morale. Offer to take care of your neighbor’s child or your nephew or niece. In this manner you and your partner will be able to get some baby care practice. If you still lack skill then the next time you visit somebody with small babies take the opportunity to hold, feed or change the baby. Parents will be ready to abide because they are always on the lookout of extra help.

The Second Time Around:

This may be the second time you are going to be a father. You may be coping through this pregnancy with ease. But there are some unknown topics that you may have to deal with this time. One problem is how your existing child would cope up with arrival of the new one. Also remember that every pregnancy is different and this time it maybe tougher than the last time. Remember that your partner still has to do a lot of heavy work. Take time to pamper her and share her child care duties.
