Question: I’m 4 months pregnant and my vagina smells bad. I always use feminine wash but still smell persists. I experience back pain and sometimes vomit and get nausea in the morning. I always visit health center for the consultation.
Vaginal Odor and Pregnancy
During pregnancy, there is an increase in the secretion of fluids and mucus from the cervix. This results in increase in moisture and changes the acid levels in the vaginal track, making it suitable for occurrence of bacterial infection.
The bacterial infection results in foul odor from the vagina and also transforms the clear white vaginal discharge into cheesy and yellowish.
Remedy for Vagina Odor
Some precautions that you can take:
- Use cotton panties, which can absorb most of the fluid discharge and help to treat vagina odor.
- Avoid wearing tight clothing around the vagina; otherwise the fluid may be forced back up
- Wear panty liner, which may help reduce moisture. Don’t wear panties in the evening or at night. This will allow the vaginal skin to dry out and prevent vaginal bacterial infection.
- Don’t use soap. Soap makes the skin drier so try to clean vaginal skin with warm water and cloth only.
- Drink lots of water. It is possible that the bacterial infection may be transmitted through the urinary tract. Drinking lots of water will constantly flush bacteria out of the Urinary tract.
- If the color or odor has changed, please take appropriate antibiotics to halt the infection, or it may be transmitted to the child during normal delivery.
- Try homeopathic remedy ‘œSepia’ to prevent vaginal odor. Taking it in low potency, repeatedly thrice a day, for 7 days will halt the bacterial infection in the vagina.
